DBC Spotlight: Wort Wizard Charlie P.!

March 16, 2016

We think it’s high time you got to know some of the amazing folks who make up our Denver Beer Co. family.  Each month we’ll put one of our amazing peeps in the spotlight, and let you get to know a bit more about them.  This month we’d like to introduce you to one of the talented brewers who makes sure each can of Graham Cracker Porter is the campfire in a can of your dreams.  Meet Assistant Brewer, Charlie P!

Q: What is your hometown, and how long have you lived in CO?  What brought you out here?

A: My hometown is Medfield, MA. I’ve been in CO since 2007. I came out to go to school at Colorado College.

Q:Colorado College seems to turn out quite a few craft brewers, they should add brewing to the block schedule.  So, do you have a significant other worth mentioning publicly?

A: I am engaged. My fiance’s name is Samantha.

Q: Congrats!  We are looking forward to the wedding. How long have you been with DBC?

A: About 5 months, I began in mid-November.

Q: And what did you do before joining the DBC family?

A: I was a brewer at Great Divide Brewing Company.

Q: Those guys make good beer!  What is your job title at DBC, and what do you do on a “typical” day at DBC?

A: My tytle is Wort Wizard (self given). I don’t think I’ve had a typical day yet. But I enjoy brewing kick ass beer, and have a really good time doing it.

Q: What get’s you out of bed and brings you into work each morning?

A: In order my dog, and a cup of coffee.

Q:We’re assuming you like beer, what else motivated you to work in the beer industry?

A: The people and the community really. I started at AC golden and worked beer festivals every weekend. I knew that was more than just a part time job for me. I know I wanted a career in this community.

Q: Do you have a favorite memory, or a great story from working here?

A: Before I was an employee, my friend’s band played the second anniversary party, and I was working on Basic Kneads at the time. It was a Rip Roarin good time.

Q: What’s your favorite beer we make or have made?

A:The Blood Orange IPA. Man that was good. It was on the first week I worked here and I still remember it.

Q: Good news, Blood Orange should be back on tap soon! What about one that’s not from us?

A: The last beer I drank that I was super excited about drinking was Spangalang Brewery’s Cranberry Citrus Session Ale.

Q: So, what do you do for fun? Or what does your ideal day off look like?

A: Um, sleeping in! Probably spending the afternoon with my fiance and my dog, and going to a concert. Preferably bluegrass, but I’m easy.

Q:What are one or two items on your bucket list?

A:Two items on my bucket list? I don’t have a bucket list, cause I’m going to live forever.

Q:If you could have a beer with any person (dead or alive), who would you choose and what beer would you drink?

A: I think Barak Obama, and whatever beer he most recently brewed, because I’ve heard he is a homebrewer, which is sweet!

Thanks Charlie!  The next time you see Charlie around the brewery, be sure to give him a wave.  Chances are, he’s the one that brewed the good stuff in your pint glass.  Cheers!
