Denver Beer Co. Wins Medal at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival®

October 1, 2015

King Ink takes bronze medal in Black IPA category

Denver, Colo. (September 27, 2015) – Denver Beer Co. claimed a bronze medal at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition. Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 92 beer categories were announced September 26 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.

“I’m thrilled by this GABF win. I’ve been working on the recipe for King Ink for many years, making tweaks here and ther12039578_957175230991347_2964053536054553827_ne to get the balance and flavoring just right, said Jason Buehler, Head Brewer for Denver Beer Co.

Denver Beer Co. was recognized in the Black IPA beer-style category for its King Ink, an India Black Ale made with a base of 2-Row barley, crystal, and carafa malts.  King Ink is characterized by a rich caramel malt base complemented with hopping of Columbus, Mosaic, Cascade, Amarillo, and Citra hops.   King Ink features citrusy, pungent, and earthy tones with a fruity hop complexity and is 6.3% ABV, 44 IBU’s.

The 2015 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 242 expert judges from the record number of 6,647 entries, plus 91 Pro-Am entries, received from 1,552 U.S. breweries.

The 2015 bronze medal is the second GABF medal for Denver Beer Co. who won a bronze for Graham Cracker Porter in 2011.  Denver Beer Co. has two brewing locations including a tap room and beer garden at 1695 Platte Street in Denver, and a production brewery dubbed “Canworks” at 4455 Jason Street in Denver.

“American brewers continue to create innovative, flavorful high quality beers. That was on full display at this year’s Great American Beer Festival,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, Great American Beer Festival. “The Great American Beer Festival continues to showcase the best this country’s brewers have to offer, with the competition growing and becoming ever more competitive. Congratulations to all participants and especially this year’s winners.”
