The month of January can mean different things for many people: new year, settling in after the holidays, resolutions… On Platte Street, January means a ton of exciting events to start what is sure to be a pretty exciting year!
The holidays always bring family and friends to our fair city for celebrating and catching up. Some folks ski, others like to avoid the crowds and head somewhere they can chat and indulge. No matter what people do during the holidays, there is always one thing for certain, BEER will be had. In the taproom we saw unique seasonal brews ranging from “Tis the Saison,” a lighter Belgian brew spiced with spearmint for an unforgettable refreshing drink, to what became the hit of the block: “Cocoa Cream Graham Cracker Porter.” Patrick’s brainchild, Cocoa Cream Graham Cracker Porter was made with lactose sugar and hefty amounts of cocoa nibs giving it a complex, silky smooth drink. It was almost better than Christmas dessert. Games were played, bands rocked out for the cold Sunday crowds, and holiday decor was perfect for a relaxing night on the town.
Seeing as the winter months deliver freezing temps, we held our second annual “Coat Drive” offering free pints for those willing to bring in an old coat for those in need. If you missed out, save your old threads for next year, we won’t tell your mother you gave away that new chipmunk sweater.
Between beer, music, and games the only thing missing this time of year is CHILI! January boasts our annual Chili Cook-off in which competitors go head-to-head in front of hundreds of hungry patrons to be crowned champion of flavortown. Make sure to come down January 26th from 1-4pm and experience the best smelling room you’ve ever been in!
As far as the mountains go, every year Vail gives you a good reason other than skiing to head for the hills: Vail Big Beers Festival. Our sales guru Nick Swingler bundled up and served our Rum-barrel aged Belgian Quad “Hide the Rum” as well as our American Style “Burrley-wine,” which went quick! He was able to get out and try some other breweries noting that some of his favorites were Perennial’s “Imperial Stout”, Boulevard’s “Bourbon Barrel Quad”, as well as Pretty Things’ “Imperial Stout.” This is one of the more popular festivals of the year, but be warned, it’s called BIG BEERS for a reason. They serve some hefty brews at this festival!
2014 is going to be a big year for Denver Beer Co. with the opening of our new canning facility on Jason Street. This week we received quite the delivery at the new building… 1,000 kegs! Fresh off the container, Charlie, Patrick, Bruno, Swingler, Christie and I developed an efficient and quick system to get them unloaded, on palates, wrapped, and moved (check out instagram.com/denverbeerco for a sneak peak video) where they will await beer! We are beyond excited to open our new facility; you’ll be sipping DBC cans before you know it!
To end the holiday season, the Denver Beer Co. team enjoyed a little gathering for our growing family. We closed up shop this past Monday and headed to our new facility on Jason Street for our annual holiday party. It was a ball! A delicious four-course meal served by Mikes2 Kitchen was followed by adult tricycle races, giant jenga, dance-parties, and of course BEER! We couldn’t be more proud of our team here at Denver Beer Co, and we can’t wait to see you in the coming year!
From all of us at Denver Beer Co, we hope you all had a wonderful holiday season.
Cheers,
Casey Capper
